There are multiple guitars tracked here on almost every part
of this song. Every 2 measures in the intro basically adds another layer
and they vary slightly throughout the song.
The openning Riff sounds like Lifeson is using some shifting effect set to kill.
There is a one note difference every 2 measures.
The clean quasi-arrpegiated section (Rhy.1A&B) has Lifeson using a very clean
but compressed sound along with slight phaser & ambient delay.
Leading into & during the quasi-arrpegiated sections, there's a low "E" that goe
s
"Dumm Dummm Da Da Dum" that sounds like a thunderous distorted bass
with a touch of crunch guitar that's a studio overdub. But since Lifeson is play
ing the quassi-arrpegiated section during
this, so Neil will probably be creating this using some electronic drum pad when
played live, similar to how he
does the thunderous bass jackhammer sound on Force Ten unless the whole thing is
just gonna be sampled. Geddy may be doing this
also in the studio cut but probably not since I hear Geddy doing some higher sub
tle sliding bass stuff during some of this section but he seems as if he
might be played octaves here, (low & high)
Rhy-2 seems to be a jangly-clean guitar in the fore-front on the left channel allong with
Riff A played in on the right channel a little more buried.
I think the key to playing this well is to barre the chords & avoid strumming the bass strings.
There's some incredibly great strumming & rhythm work going on in the song!
It's Lifeson Jamming Party-Style or something is how I describe it. :)
Note that there is a chordal shape difference in Rhy.2
so be mindfully aware & examine this Rhythm's tab closely.
It's technically just the middle finger in the chord shape switching
from the B string to the G string & back.
Also Rhy.3 is a slight variation of Rhy.2 & both Rhythms vary slightly
on occasion.
The blues riff "Riff-B" is way laid-back compared to the rest of the song
and it varies somewhat throughout but he using a lot of slid notes similar
to the main riff from Xanadu.
This tab is almost the entire song. You'll have to listen for the small rhythmic
lead/solo that Alex plays near the end of the song that's
so simple I'm leaving that open for interpretation on position for now
until I get to tabbing it :)
Special thanks to Jim Cirronella <twozbar@verizon.net> for his initial input con
cerning the blues riffs.
